Fedrigoni TOP Award 2022.

This year’s Fedrigoni TOP Award prize-giving ceremony takes place today in Paris. The event is the culmination of a judging process that aims to celebrate the best work made using Fedrigoni products in six categories: Packaging, Labels, Publishing, Large format communication, Corporate communication and Research.

2022 marked significant changes for Fedrigoni’s long-established awards scheme. The award is now annual and features two new categories: large format and research.

This was also the first time since 2019 that all the international jurors could meet in person at Casa Fedrigoni in Verona to discuss (and touch and feel) artefacts submitted from all over the world. Projects were assessed against the four TOP Award criteria: originality of graphic design; functionality; quality of execution; and appropriate use of papers and self-adhesives.

The judges remarked on the prevalence of illustration; the continuing use of minimalist approaches; and how the social impact of design is a consideration demanded by consumers, suppliers, manufacturers and designers alike.

The jury comprised Silvana Amato (see Pulp 17); Ivan Bell (Stranger & Stranger, see Pulp 18); Laurent Hainaut (ForceMajure); Chinese art director Jiaying Han; Fanette Mellier; Marion Trossat (Interparfums); and was chaired by Simon Esterson (Pulp / Eye).

All agreed that the TOP Award has a role to play in showing the versatility of Fedrigoni’s products within a fast-changing, more environmentally conscious. Trossat said: ‘Sustainability remains at the heart of all future developments. Eco design is the priority.’

The ring-bound Top Award book, digitally printed at Pureprint on eight different papers, features photography by Philip Sayer. Shortlisted entries can be viewed online at fedrigonitopaward.com/2022-edition/competing-projects/

A programme of talks and workshops takes place on Friday 18 November 2022.
