Michael Wolff – Leap before you look

Michael Wolff – Leap before you look

Publishing

Michael Wolff co-founder of pioneering brand consultancy Wolff Olins is publishing his “first and only” biography: Leap before you look, The heart and soul of branding. This hardcover book offers a glimpse into how Michael’s counterintuitive creativity works. It inspires to become more strategic, more adventurous, more disruptive, more mischievous. Far from a coffee table book, it provides sharp, learn-by-example insights into the world of branding.

Leap before you look celebrates Michael Wolff’s unorthodox journey through the swinging ‘60s, as creative director of Wolff Olins, and a roving freelance global consultant. He has been awarded just about every plaudit the design industry offers from Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Art, to President of D&AD (Design & Art Directors Association), and is on the judging panel of the Royal Society of Arts Designers for Industry Awards.

Designed by NB Studio in collaboration with writer Tom Lynham the book chronicles Michael Wolff’s consultancies over a 60-years and 300+ pages with big names such as Apple Records, VW, Audi, Norton Motorcycles and many more.

Beautifully litho printed and bound by Hampton in a limited edition of 100 copies, the book has immediately become a collector’s item, selling out upon release.

A highlight of the book’s production is its use of premium paper stocks supplied by Fedrigoni. The bright yellow cover, with black foil detailing, is made of Geltex Amarillo E/Algodón 115gsm (Guarro Casas) and is wrapped in a Sirio White/White 170gsm squared dust jacket. The internal pages alternate between our coated Symbol Freelife Matt Plus Premium White 150gsm for full-page images, giving them a soft glow, and uncoated Sirio Color Gialloro 170gsm for text and end papers, matching the vibrant appeal of the cover with a darker, deeper shade of yellow.

Printing and specialty Printing

Offset printing is one of the most common techniques used to achieve optimum quality for images and text. The name of the product is often highlighted with printing techniques such as embossed printing and hot foil stamping. The latter is generally used to obtain very realistic metallic colours that are very difficult to achieve with other printing techniques. If the board or paper chosen for a package has dark or bright colours, screen printing allows the application of covering inks that can be highlighted against the background.
